Aymen Alam

The painting is in my bedroom. It shares the space with other things precious to me. My Nani's Bed . Her hand embroidered fabric which I have framed . My books and some restored antiques that remind me of the times when the Pace of life was slow and people had time for each other. The painting reminds of the first films we watched on VCR and how we would secretly watch them when our parents were away or Asleep. Of all the precious camera rolls and the surprise results after the pictures were developed exposed and printed. Love the colors and emotions the image brings out in me.

I commissioned a painting by Aymen after seeing her thesis work at NCA. Her fan painting stood out for a number of a number of reasons. She was very pleasant to deal with and kept me up to date with the whole process. Definitely recommended.

This piece, and the rest of Aymen’s work, instill a deep sense of nostalgia - everyday objects, moments, and places from childhood that no longer exist. The vibrant colors, technique, and minimal composition are what especially drew me to this piece in particular.
